  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 11/4 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 11/4 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 11/4 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 11/4 teaspoons salt
  • 21/4 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Sauté onion, garlic, and ginger in a large nonstick pan until golden. Add spices and cook until fragrant.
  2. Stir in diced tomatoes, then transfer to the slow cooker.
  3. Add chicken thighs to the slow cooker and coat with sauce. Cook on high for 2.5 to 4 hours or low for 4 to 6 hours until chicken reaches 165°F.
  4. Remove chicken and chop into bite-sized pieces. Blend the sauce until smooth.
  5. Return sauce to slow cooker, mix in butter and heavy cream until combined.
  6. Add chopped chicken back into the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed.
