  • 2 1/23 cups white whole wheat or all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup warm water or warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 7 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl with a dough hook, combine flour, yeast, and salt. Add warm water or milk, honey, and butter; knead until smooth. Let rise covered in a warm spot for 30 minutes to an hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Cut into strips, twist into knots.
  4. Mix remaining melted butter with brown sugar and cinnamon; spoon over knots.
  5. Bake for about 16–20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Prepare glaze by mixing powdered sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, and water until smooth; drizzle over cooled knots.
