  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg yolk (slightly beaten)
  • 28 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate (60% cacao)
  • 1 teaspoon light corn syrup
  • Sea salt (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg yolk, then gradually add flour until dough forms. Press into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly golden; let cool.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and butter; stir until thickened (about 5-7 minutes). Pour over cooled shortbread.
  5. Melt dark chocolate, remaining butter, and corn syrup in another saucepan over low heat until smooth. Pour over caramel layer and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle sea salt on top and refrigerate for at least two hours before slicing into bars.
