  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Red and blue gel food coloring (1 teaspoon each)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare a half sheet pan with oil and parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; in another bowl mix oil, sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla.
  3. Divide the mixture into two bowls. Color one red and the other blue.
  4. Spread alternating stripes of colored batter in the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for about 15 minutes until springy to touch; cool on a rack.
  6. Make frosting by beating room temperature butter with marshmallow cream and powdered sugar until creamy.
  7. Unroll cooled cake gently, frost half of it, then re-roll and frost the outside.
